The relationship between Jordan Brand and Union Los Angeles has proven itself to be full of heat, most notably the 2018 release of two classic colourways of the Jordan 1 High, immediately landing themselves within the grail-status territory for many collectors. It was welcomed news when it was discovered there was a third iteration of the Jordan 1 High on the way, with many mock-up images passing around social media that had fans eagerly expecting a release just as good, if not better, than the original two.
It was no surprise, then, that when the official images dropped, people were somewhat taken aback. When you think of another Jordan 1 High Union collaboration, you would expect to see the same buttery leather construction, stitched ankle collar, dual-branding, and classic aesthetic. However, this new pair opts for an eye-catching use of Nike’s famous woven detailing, commonly seen on the Nike Footscape, wrapping around the full shoe and tying in with the smooth leather upper. All other details remain the same, with the stitched ankle making a reappearance, and the wings branding etched into the collar, whilst a yellow “UN/LA” tag hangs beneath. The pair opts for limited use of colour, with a primarily sail leather upper sitting atop an aged midsole, whilst green stitching and yellow laces offer a subtle pop.
Expect this pair to drop at some point later in the Summer, and although an unusual aesthetic, they will definitely be a pair people will regret not picking up. Albeit not the classic aesthetic like the previously released “Black Toe” and “Blue Toe” iterations, we are still a fan of this pairs unique look. Will you be copping?
