Why Were They Delayed?
As some of you may know, it was with great sadness to hear the announcement of the passing of Born x Raised Co-Founder Chris “Spanto” Printup following a car accident on the 25th of June. A tragic loss for the streetwear community, Chris was a true Los Angeles legend and achieved success alongside his business partner Alex “2Tone” Erdmann, quickly finding their feet in the madness of LA and creating their brand as an ode to their Venice, California home.
The highly anticipated Nike SB Dunk Low collaboration was set to drop in August but was understandably delayed due to unfortunate circumstances, allowing Chris’ family and friends time to mourn and come to grips with his passing. This is not the first time that Nike and Born x Raised have teamed up, previously dropping a friends and family run of the Air Force 1 ’22 “Sadie Hawkins”.
Behind the Details
The Nike SB Dunk Low x Born x Raised is nothing short of majestic, hosting a variety of details that quality materials that fall in line with the brand ethos perfectly. The pair boasts holographic details, slogans, and premium materials building throughout the upper, with nods to the religious symbolism so heavily involved in East LA Chicano street style, seen in the perforated toe box and eyelets updated with cross emblems. Further details include the words “One Block” and “At a Time” embroidered on the right and left shoe respectively. An embroidered graphic appears on the outer heel, inspired by Low Rider Custom Spray designs, a vital part of the Born x Raised aesthetic. The pair comes with a spare set of fat pink laces and white laces that boast various details throughout tying in well with the upper design and plethora of storytelling elements.
