J Balvin and Jordan Brand
With a longstanding and respectable collaborative history, Colombian music superstar J Balvin has placed his vibrant and expressive touch on a variety of silhouettes within the Jordan line. The most memorable of the bunch is without a doubt the Jordan 1 Retro High J Balvin, a pair so colourful that for many it would be unwearable, but for Balvin it fits well into his unique style. Next up was the Air Jordan 2 which dropped last year, featuring a toned-down approach and minimal detailing. For many, the Jordan 1 collaboration was too bold, so the recently released Nike Air Jordan 3 J Balvin ‘Medellin Sunset” is the perfect balance of both wearable whilst featuring vibrant details that add a fun element.
Breaking Down The Pair
As mentioned, and after months of rumours, the Nike Air Jordan 3 J Balvin “Medellin Sunset” is finally here. The launch was more limited than expected, and those lucky to get their hands on them are far from disappointed. Inspired by the sunsets in his hometown of Medellin, Colombia, the sail leather pair boasts pops of purple, orange, and yellow gradient on the heel tabs and midsole. Co-branding appears between the Nike logo on the left and Balvin’s signature smiley face logo on the right, adding yet another fun detail that ties in well with the artist's personality and style. The stitching wrapping between each panel of the shoe, the Jumpman logos, and lace loops are all finished in a sunset yellow tone, providing a subtle pop that complements the sail leather upper in maximum effect. No Jordan 3 would be complete without the signature elephant print on the mudguard and heel, with this pair being no different, utilising sail suede accents all sitting atop a translucent outsole that results in an icy finish.
