Who is Futura?

Leonard Hilton McGurr, born November 17th, 1955, known as Futura, is an American graffiti artist from New York City and has been painting since the early 1970s when he would illegally paint on New York City’s subway. From then on and after a 4-year stint in the U.S. Navy, Futura showed at the Fun Gallery in the early 1980s along with other iconic artists such as Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. This has led to a storied career within the industry, resulting in collaborations with many brands such as Hennessy, Uniqlo, New York Mets, Funko, and BMW. With collaborations dating back to 2003, storied graffiti artist Futura and Nike are back with a special edition of the Nike SB Dunk Low dressed in a vibrant galaxy print that embodies the aura of the iconic artist’s work. The Nike SB Dunk Low x Futura is without a doubt going to be a difficult one to get a hold of, much like the many collaborations that Futura involves himself in.
