Who is Rammellzee?
Born on the 5th December, 1960 in Far Rockaway, Queens, Rammellzee was an artist known for his gothic futurism style, as well as his talents in visual art, sculpture, performance art, and hip hop. He was friends with the iconic artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, with Basquiat designing the cover art for Rammellzee’s single “Beat Bop”, considered to be one of the most valuable hip-hop records of all time.
Rammellzee Is No Stranger to Supreme
It’s with no surprise that Supreme wanted to partner with Rammellzee, both a NYC native and a legendary figure in the art world, with this Nike SB collaboration being their third partnership. A set of backpacks released in 2004 served as the 1st collaborative effort and a duo of printed graphic tees served as part of the SS20 collection. Now, 3 years have passed, and the magic is being passed on to the Nike SB Dunk Low and High, with both sporting a canvas material wrapping over the majority of the upper dressed in various doodles and abstract art from Rammellzee's catalog.
Lets Get Into The Shoes
The low pair opts for an overall upper of black suede and a gum sole to compliment the vibrant artwork, whilst the high pair dons a sail base resulting in a fresher aesthetic and summer-ready finish. The graphics' colourful nature echoes the gothic futurist graffiti and mixed media sculptures that Rammellzee was so iconic for, and results in a duo of pairs that have a nostalgic feel about them, almost like they would have been released in the early 2000s rather than now.
